Larson began his broadcasting career at the age of 16 with KTIL in Tillamook, Oregon. He went on to work as an announcer at KWAX in Eugene. Larson attended the University of Oregon but left after a year to pursue a career in radio and television. During this period, he served as news director for KATR in Eugene and KBDF, and gained experience through internships at KEZI television and KPNW radio.
