During this period, she also held the role of Political Officer for Unite the Union’s Parliamentary Staff Branch.

Between 2013 and 2016, Edwards worked as a researcher at the postal section of the Communication Workers Union. Before her selection as a parliamentary candidate, she was employed at the Bank of England as a manager in financial regulation, with a six-month secondment to HM Treasury focusing on Brexit-related legislation.

In 2021, Edwards was elected to Medway Council in a by-election for the Rochester Eastward, where she served as a cabinet member for economic and social regeneration and inward investment. Her political career advanced when she defeated the incumbent Conservative MP Kelly Tolhurst to secure the Rochester and Strood seat in 2024.
